I am working through ideas of transition, containment, and the attraction between the two. I’m thinking about a simultaneous transition through a mental and physical space. As human beings we are constantly traveling through time and space and I’m interested in the energy it takes for us to do so. There is an accumulation of events, derived from multiples instances and memories, which inform the decision making of all our experiences. I focus on the resist and embrace of those decisions.

The visual elements that make up the conceptual contents of the work consist of images of organic objects. These objects are imitating organisms that I observe from the natural world, which include elements of: trails, joints, barricades, and voids. The push and pull of these elements interacting in the composition display a possible environment or situation, and yet become indistinct enough to elude the particular. I utilize formal strategies to create visual equivalences to looking, seeing, and understanding. By using subtle color that reveals itself slowly, this encourages a perceptual shift that occurs with thoughtful viewing.

Through layers of meandering and slow progression I use objects derived from nature within the compositions of my prints because they have the potential to evoke notions of the life cycle, preservation, care, loss, slowness, and intangibility. Printmaking and the process of making multiples help contribute to my desire to keep record of activity. The work promotes ideas of slowness and taking the time to be more aware of the overlooked in order to gain an understanding of one’s self and compassion for others.
